A Few Fresh Changes
Let's face it most of us are staying home more than we did two years ago which can be a good thing for our wallets. Many Americans are paying down their debt and are trying to increase their savings, while others are just trying to hang on to what they have. One thing that I have found is that as people spend more time at home, they tend to take a closer look at the interiors of their home, and they start to notice the things they would like to change. I truly believe that everybody wants and deserves a beautiful home, but many people are unaware that updating a room doesn't have to be expensive. You need to be creative without costing yourself an arm or a leg.
Meet our clients Charles and Terry Grant. The Grants called us because they wanted to update their master bedroom. Keep in mind that the Grants have two children in college. So their budget was small. Basically, they had furnished the room several years ago and just wanted to update it without spending a lot of money. When your dealing with a small budget every penny counts. So plan, plan, plan. Take a look at the pictures. Terry and Charles purchased a rice carved bed and matching chest back in the 80's when everyone bought furniture in sets. We wanted to put a fresh new spin on their furniture so we painted the bed in a crisp white color. Painting the bed did two important things for this room. First, it updated the older bed and made it look more transitional. Second, the furniture no longer looked like a matched set. Today's home furnishings are more transitional to contemporary in style. Even traditional styles are becoming less fussy and have cleaner lines. We kept the bedcoverings and draperies in the room because they looked great and had an updated feel, but we did paint the drapery rods in the same white color. Most of you have heard the old saying "diamonds are a girls best friend," but let me tell you, when it comes to decorating on a small budget, "paint is a girls best friend". Terry already owned the panels above her bed. They just needed to be reupholstered in a fabric that would tie in her chairs while at the same time updating the chairs as well. We also reupholstered her ottoman in the same fabric. The bench at the end of the bed was reupholstered in a coordinating fabric and we had a pillow made in the same fabric. Take a look at the lamps. The easiest way to update a lamp is to change it's shade and or paint it another color. In our example, we chose to do both because we wanted to update the lamps with the shades and we needed to add some more of the blue color to balance out the room. Finally, we rearranged the accessories and added one large print to finish updating our space. So you see just a few fresh changes can update a room.
